NINO ZUCCHELLI COLLECTION
A tribute to the masters of Polish cinema

The appreciation of the Nino Zucchelli Collection started with the 2005 edition of Bergamo Film Meeting. Every year the festival offers an insight into the precious collection that was donated to GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Accademia Carrara and is currently kept at Lab 80. The festival hosted a selection of 13 animation short films in 2005 and a selection of 1960s Czech films in 2006.
The 2007 edition will focus on Polish cinema, and on two outstanding masters, however different they were, of that cinema: Jerzy Skolimowski and Krzysztof Zanussi. Skolimowski’s film is one of his first works, Bariera (Barrier, 1966), the third – after Walkower (Walkover, 1965) and Rysopis (Identification Marks: None, 1964) – in a trilogy devoted to juvenile alienation. Zanussi’s work is here represented by two films, one being the powerful Za Sciana (Behind the Wall, 1971), characterised by the extraordinary portrait of a woman and the great acting of the two protagonists, the other being a documentary on the composer Krzysztof Penderecki. A forth work, Zanim opadna liscie (Gypsies, 1957), from the master of Polish documentary tradition Wladyslaw Slesicki, will be presented. It is the sweet, melancholy, poetic portrait of a vagrant community who travels the world on horseback.

A digital edition of all films in the Nino Zucchelli Collection is being prepared in cooperation with Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo, and Lab 80 film, with the support and technical assistance of Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Cineteca Nazionale (Rome).
