1920s. Sitting in a café, Jakob, a sea captain, bets a friend that he will marry the first woman who walks through the door. That is how Lizzy becomes his wife. Married life, however, soon proves troubled, and Jakob, consumed by jealousy, struggles to understand the woman beside him.
