It is 1980, and Barbara, a doctor from East Berlin, has applied to leave the GDR. As punishment, she is transferred to a provincial hospital, where she is constantly monitored. André, the head of surgery to whom she has been assigned, is also required to report on her to the Stasi. Despite this, a professional bond develops between them that seems to foreshadow something more. However, Barbara is planning her escape to the West, where her lover is waiting for her.
