On March 9 Spazio Oberdan will host a screening of The Firemen’s Ball by Miloš Forman, who’s also the protagonist of this year’s retrospective; on March 16, as part of the Incontri della Civica initiative at the Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti, there will be a meeting with Dagur Kári, the Icelandic filmmaker who’s also one of the protagonists of this year’s EUROPE, NOW! section.
The Spazio Oberdan screening (March 9, 9:00 PM) of The Firemen’s Ball (Hoří, má panenko!, Czechoslovakia, Italy, 1967, 71′, o.v. sub. it.) heralds the homage that Bergamo Film Meeting is tributing this year to the Czech master, screening his complete filmography during the festival.
In collaboration with Long Take, Fondazione Cineteca Italiana and Czech Centre of Milan.
THURSDAY MARCH 9, 9:00 PM – SPAZIO OBERDAN, VIALE VITTORIO VENETO 2, MILAN
The Firemen’s Ball! / Hoří, má panenko!
Czechoslovakia, Italy 1967, 71’, col., o.v. sub. it.
The former fire department chief of a small village throws an open party for his 86th birthday.
It all starts going south very soon, though. Prizes are stolen. A fire breaks out. The rhetoric turns into farce. A film that was heavily contested by the regime.
Ticket: full price 7,5 euro, reduced 5,5 euro
The film will be introduced by film critic Andrea Chimento (Long Take and Il Sole 24 Ore).
Also consolidated this year the collaboration with the Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti of Milan where, on Thursday March 16 (2:30 PM) within the initiative Incontri della Civica, a meeting will be hosted with Icelandic filmmaker Dagur Kári, preceded by a screening of his film Nói albinói. The director is also one of the three protagonists of this year’s EUROPE, NOW! section.
A brilliant representative of the new and lively Icelandic filmmaking scene, from the very beginning of his career Dagur Kári has earned the favour of the international critics. Sensitive and ironical, Dagur Kári’s spins his stories around non-conforming, often marginalized characters – when not losers through and through – who inhabit surreal atmospheres not devoid of subtle hints of romance and tender moments.
THURSDAY MARCH 16, 2:30 PM – CIVICA SCUOLA DI CINEMA LUCHINO VISCONTI | EX MANIFATTURA TABACCHI, VIALE FULVIO TESTI 121, MILAN
Screening of the film Nói albinói followed by a meeting with Dagur Kári, open to the public.
Nói Albinói
Iceland, Germany, UK, Denmark 2003, 93′, col, o.v. sub. it.
Nói lives in a remote Icelandic fjord with his grandmother and his alcoholic father, spending his days the company of a librarian. One day he meets Iris, for whom he falls and dreams of running away with. A crisp and dazzling film, like an Icelandic frost.
