Welsh writer Tyvian Jones is at the Venice film festival for the presentation of a film drawn from his successful novel. In Venice he meets Eva, an enigmatic woman immediately seducing him. She is quite straightforward: she restrains herself from falling in love, and at the same time she forbids anyone to fall in love with her. Following a short affair, Eva leaves Tyvian to go back to Rome. Completely subjected to her charm, he follows her, accepting all kinds of humiliation. When he understands that he must get rid of this obsession, Tyvian marries young and beautiful Francesca. But the affair is not over.
