Un regista greco vuole realizzare un documentario su Rìgas Feràios e i movimenti rivoluzionari nell’Europa dell’illuminismo. La sua ricerca lo porta a Trieste, nel cimitero della comunità greca, dove sono in corso lavori di restauro. Lì incontra un gruppo di fantasmi dell’Ottocento, i quali, infastiditi dal rumore dei lavori di manutenzione, lasciano il cimitero e prendono l’autobus per recarsi in città, in un viaggio pieno di sorprese.
