The director Thanos Anatopoulos, one of the protagonists of BFM 35 section Europe, Now!, will meet the audience Thursday, March the 16th at Bookshop in Piazza della Libertà.
The director will be present at the Festival from March 15 to 18.
An acute observer of the Greek society (and beyond), even in its most recent and turbulent changes, Thanos Anastopoulos – one of the most famous filmmakers and documentarians of his country, today – made his debut at the Rotterdam film festival with his first feature Olo to varos tou kosmou (Atlas. All the Weight of the World, 2004), a mosaic of everyday life stories following eleven different characters. Later on, the filmmaker delved deeper into the Greek crisis and its repercussions on the lives of individuals at the mercy of a fate that leaves little room for future prospects, with the features Diorthosi(Correction, 2007), which represented Greece at the Oscars) and I kóri(The Daughter, 2012), both presented at the Berlinale. Finally, Anastopoulos landed at the Cannes Film Festival with his most recent feature: The Last Resort (2016), a documentary – co-directed with Triestine filmmaker Davide Del Degan – presenting many different small yet universal stories enclosed in the microcosm of the Pedocin, a popular beach resort in Trieste, Italy, where an infamous wall still separates men from women.
