The town of Stollberg, Germany, until 2001 was only known for the presence of Hoheneck Prison, a correctional facility for women that had been in operation since 1862. During the Cold War it housed political prisoners who, in this film, anonymously provide harrowing accounts of the harassment they were forced to endure, the gruelling forced labour, and the unlivable conditions of overcrowding in a prison that could hold a maximum of 600 inmates but which, in the period shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, came to hold more than 1,600.
