Little Fish... Big Fish... - Pesce piccolo... pesce grande...
Directed by Lívia GyarmathyItalian title: Little Fish... Big Fish... - Pesce piccolo... pesce grande...
Hungary / 2008 / 29'

This is a tale of fish poachers and fish protectors. Gangs of organised thieves take fish in industrial quantities from the river. A lonely retired man living off a monthly income of 18 Euros, János sets off to the river to fish for his supper. A couple of wardens, supposed to stop illegal fishing, only manage to catch János and penalise him according to the exact letter of the law. The film does not suggest that “big fish” eat “little fish”, but that “big fish” flout the law and slip through the net, instead, while the “little fish” get hooked every time.
