

Maria loves oysters, classical music and her grandson, who shows a precocious talent for the piano. Determined to make him a pianist at any cost, she rents an upright piano and hires the best teacher in Marseilles to give him private lessons. But Maria does not have the means to meet these expenses and, like Rossini’s ‘magpie’, she steals the life that glitters and skims off the expense of her clients, elderly people she lovingly looks after. Her devotion, however, pushes her a little too far, writing cheques that she cannot return. An unforeseen event unravels her game, but under the Estaque sun anything can happen…
