In 1939, Anna Florea meets the young soldier Jean Mihail in her home village in Bukovina, and falls in love with him. All too soon, however, Jean is ordered to go to the front line: although his passionate letters keep the bond alive, when Anna has to flee, contact is broken. It is Anna Florea herself who tells the story today, at the age of 91, supported by digitised images of 5,000 unpublished ambrotypes from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
