Julie, a translator, has just moved into a new house with her successful husband, Richard, and the teenage daughter, Cecilie. Their life is supposed to be that of a perfectly happy family, but something apparently distant is going to upset their life. As she learns that her favourite singer, Nina Simone, has passed away, Julie suddenly and harshly realizes that her life is not the way she would like it to be. Acting on a kind of ancestral impulse she buys a piano. It is no easy purchase, as her visit to the musical instrument store opens up a whole lot of revelations.
