Archive Film Festival Network (AFFN) is a unique connection of European film festivals (Bergamo Film Meeting – Bergamo, Italy; FEMA La Rochelle – La Rochelle, France; Midnight Sun Film Festival – Sodankylä, Finland; Summer Film School – Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic) focused on archive films and film heritage. The AFFN festivals believe in the importance of film history and of showing archive films.

AFFN’s aim is to present an articulated system of shared activities including: a programme section with a list of common film titles (AFFN Presents); restored films presented during the festivals as part of annual activities of AFFN (AFFN Film); educational projects (AFFN Education); programmes dedicated to professionals (AFFN Industry).

On the occasion of BFM 44, AFFN offers a journey through the cinema of the 1950s, with a selection of eight films made by well-known and lesser-known filmmakers, all united by their ability to bear witness in an exemplary way to what it meant – and still means today – to be an auteur. In addition, there is the 2026 distribution proposal with Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Krótki film o miłości (A Short Film about Love, 1988).
