In 1839, in Paris, Jean-Gaspard-Baptiste Deburau, famous actor and mime of the Théâtre des Funambules, was courted by numerous admirers. He always resisted, preferring his marriage to a charming woman and his attachment to his son Charles, who at all costs wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. But one night, Deburau succumbs to the charms of Marie Duplessis, a young woman who brings a camellia to life.
