Frame out to dry

An exhibition of the original drawings for the film L’Alchimista (The Alchemist) by Andrea Aste. Sketches and drawings, character studies and imaginary places with impossible geometries, ideal frames of paper hung to dry to and telling the story of this project.
The exhibition, which collects together the preparatory storyboards of L’Alchimista, a film that premiered at Bergamo Film Meeting 2013, is a journey through 92 red ink and black ink drawings on white paper. The illustrations, all hand-made, tell the story of a parallel world made of paper puppets that come to life and land on the screen.
In this regard, Andrea Aste declared: “The idea of L’Alchimista came to me like all ideas do: suddenly, like lightning, they hit you… L’Alchimista is the evolution of my artistic work. In the last two years I have made exhibitions conceived on the idea of a parallel world, very detailed and with “windows” open on the real world… The transition to video was natural, it allowed me to give another life to my works; first they expressed themselves through the image and the word, and now through movement also”.
